BOE and IBM join hands to build smart healthcare big data platform

On June 29, 2015, BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. (BOE) (BOE A Share: 000725; BOE B Share: 200725) announced that it had signed software licensing and joint development agreement with IBM. The two sides will establish a joint team to develop health management and result-oriented analysis system and build a health management big data platform based on cognitive computing. This is another important move BOE has made in the field of smart healthcare service after acquiring Mingde Investment.

Cognitive computing is to improve the cognitive and analytic abilities of computers through analyzing the ever-growing data to make them think like human brains. IBM has launched powerful cognitive computing systems such as “Deep Blue” and “Watson”, which can not only recognize human languages but also express opinions and make decisions like humans, accumulate experience and learn constantly, and have extraordinary ability to analyze big data. So far, IBM’s cognitive computing technology has been applied in such fields as healthcare, retailing and finance. Especially, IBM has cooperated with MD Anderson Cancer Center the field of healthcare, lifting the auxiliary diagnosis accuracy rate to 73%.

In the era of big data, the explosive growth of data is prompting a shift toward personalized medical service. To partner with IBM in developing a health management big data platform based on cognitive computing is a key step BOE has taken to develop distinctive, differentiated and personalized health management service, improve the intelligent data analysis, digging and processing abilities, establish its smart healthcare big data platform, and to build a health management system throughout the life cycle.
